Why I Wear Vintage

Why Wear Vintage

You'll almost always find me wearing vintage. I've been a vintage lover for the longest...about eleven years. I think I wrote about my transition into how I became a vintage girl several posts ago. I'll tell you more about how I started wearing vintage and share some tips on how to start wearing vintage in a future post. These days I'll hardly ever leave the house without wearing at least one vintage piece. But usually my outfit is pretty much head to toe vintage. And it feels so good!!

I get asked quite often why I wear vintage. Well, here's why:

It's unique

There's just something about vintage that stands out. Maybe it's the details, awesome colors and prints or possibly the fact that you won't often walk down the street and spot a million other people in the same thing. I love turning heads when I walk into a room or am strolling down the street in my cool vintage outfits. I used to be a huge fan of H&M but over the years got tired of wearing the same pieces as my friends and everyone else walking down Sixth or Seventh avenues in New York City.

It has history

I'm such a curious person and love history and all things old. I love anything with a story. So naturally, I LOVE vintage fashion because it has such history. It's like each piece has a story to tell. And how cool is it that it was previously worn by someone and meant something to their lives being it a t-shirt they wore to a family outing or a fancy dress they wore to a formal. Vintage fashion gives us such a cool glimpse into life decades before us and how cool is that!

It's sustainable

I've been a tree hugger since I was about five years old. I've read so many articles on the serious environmental issues of fast fashion. I'm so happy and proud to be apart of a movement that helps reduce waste by recycling and reusing fashion. Who knew that you could look cute and help save the planet at the same time!

The Quality is Awesome

I can't tell you how many times I've heard a fellow vintage lover say "they just don't make clothes like this anymore". I also used to be a huge Zara fan but noticed how some of the pieces I had were literally falling apart. The quality and sewing just wasn't there as compared to vintage pieces. I've owned and worn tons of pieces that were older than me and still holding up so well. I love zipping a zipper that is from my grandmom's era.
